Popular Outdoor Design Trends For 2023

With the shortest day behind us and the days getting noticeably longer, everyone is beginning to plan their outdoor projects for 2023. But what are the big trends for outdoor spaces for the year ahead? Here is the lowdown on some of the most popular garden looks.

Outdoor Living Rooms

This trend for outdoor living rooms has been around for a while but shows no sign of slowing down. According to Houzz, “Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen homeowners look to their outdoor spaces to accommodate a variety of activities, including cooking, dining and exercising. But few things trump lounging, and increasingly these areas are garnering lots of attention.”

Garden Glow-ups

Country Living predicts that garden glow-ups will be big in 2023. With many people still working from home, gardens have become just as important as interior spaces. This might involve sprucing up existing features, or a complete re-landscape of your outdoor space. Awnings are an effective and simple way to update your garden whether you want extra shade or privacy.

Mediterranean Gardens

Embracing a laid-back vibe, Mediterranean style gardens are gaining popularity. According to Gardening Etc, a big part of this trend is creating a shaded area: “The best Mediterranean gardens have somewhere shady to retreat to when the sun gets too hot.” And if the extreme temperatures of last summer are anything to go by, we’re all going to need more shade in our gardens this year! Awnings are, of course, one of the most obvious ways to create a shaded patio area in your garden.

Warm Colours

In terms of colours, Ideal Home suggests that a natural and warm colour palette will dominate outdoor furniture, accessories and landscaping. With regards to awnings, we expect to see a move away from the cool grey and blue tones that have been so popular in recent years and instead see an increase in more muted fabric colours like cream, green and even terracotta.
