5 ways to make the most of your garden this summer

With COVID-19 restrictions still in place and foreign travel looking unlikely for some time yet, many of us are spending more time in our gardens and outdoor spaces than ever before. So, get settled in and make the most of your garden this summer with our top five tips.

Create a shaded area

If your garden gets lots of sunshine during the day, you may find that the temperature can get too hot at times, so create an area of shade to get some respite and to protect you and your family from harmful UV rays. A retractable awning is a great way to do this. Not only does it look incredibly smart, and you can cover large areas of your garden with an awning, you can also close it up again quickly and easily at the touch of a button.

Set up an outdoor kitchen and dining room

Embrace outdoor cooking and alfresco dining with a purpose-built outdoor kitchen and dining area. Whether you choose an outdoor pizza oven or barbeque, preparing a feast of delicious food from a well set-up outdoor kitchen will add a new dimension to your garden this summer. Complement this with a spacious dining table, comfy chairs and a beautiful set of crockery worthy of a summertime banquet with friends and family.

Use lighting to create a welcoming ambience

The fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. By dressing your garden with soft lighting, you can continue to enjoy your outdoor space well into the evening. String fairy lights over fences and hedges for a romantic ambience and line a pathway with solar-powered LEDs. For something a little brighter, an integrated light bar on your awning will provide enough light to allow you to dine in comfort or continue relaxing with a good book.

Decorate with plants and flowers

Inject a bit of colour into your garden with a variety of plants and flowers. From raised flower beds to potted planters, there are many ways to create a flourishing array of buds, vines and blossoms. Not only will your garden look better for it, but flowers are also great for wildlife – attract bright butterflies, buzzing bumblebees and busy bugs into your space to bring it to life this summer.

Have a source of heat to hand

It may be summer, but the Great British weather can be unpredictable, so it’s prudent to have a good source of heat available if you need it. From fire pits and chimineas to electric patio heaters, there are plenty of options to choose from. If you have an awning, an efficient infrared halogen heater will provide lots of warmth for your outdoor space on chilly summer evenings.
